The Anambra State Government trained 150 farmers and stakeholders on safe methods for preserving agricultural produce, aiming to enhance food security. The two-day training, titled “Proper Handling, Storage, Preservation, and Grading of Agricultural Produce,” included an inspection of agro-allied establishments.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Forster Ihejiofor, stressed the importance of the training for food safety and sustaining farmers’ livelihoods, urging participants to apply and share their knowledge. Permanent Secretary Ifeyinwa Uzoka called for collaboration among stakeholders to address sector challenges. Practical sessions led by Obigwe Chukwum showcased organic preservation methods, which were endorsed by Royal Neem Limited’s CEO, Okey Chukwuma, as more sustainable. Uzoamaka Emeagwa, Acting Director of the Produce Department, emphasized the training’s role in tackling poor storage, adulteration, and unhygienic practices.
