The National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) recent inspection visit to the Plateau State College of Agriculture Garkawa in Mikang Local Government Area has sparked optimism for producing more professionals in the agricultural sector. This has generated excitement among the school’s management, teachers, and students, who believe that accrediting these additional courses will significantly boost both the academic growth of the institution and the agricultural sector of the state and nation.
During the accreditation inspection, Acting Provost Rev. Nathan Akila Loks outlined the programs submitted for accreditation, including six HND programs: Home and Rural Economics, Animal Health Technology, Animal Production Technology, Crop Production Technology, Pest Management Technology, and Horticultural Technology. Other programs up for accreditation are HND Agricultural Extension and Management, ND Animal Health and Production Technology, ND Horticultural Technology, and ND Home and Rural Economics. Additionally, ND Agricultural Technology and Institutional Administration are seeking re-accreditation.
Rev. Loks highlighted the importance of this process for the institution’s growth and agriculture’s development, emphasizing their commitment to addressing food security through quality training. NBTE Deputy Director Dr. Rufai Ibrahim confirmed the board’s support, noting that the new programs will enhance crop and animal sciences in the country, particularly in the agricultural community of Garkawa. He mentioned that the inspection will cover academic content, curriculum, admissions, regulations, and examination standards, as well as the college’s infrastructure and teaching personnel.
