“The Federal Government has empowered 243 smallholder farmers in Edo State under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS). The Federal Government recently empowered 243 smallholder farmers in Edo State with various inputs and capacity-building programs under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS). The beneficiaries received poultry feeds, fish feeds, day-old chicks, maize and vegetable seeds, liquid fertilizer, and other essential resources aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and reducing poverty. Temitope Fadashemi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, highlighted that the initiative was a collaborative effort between the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Dr. Owoicho Samuel, representing the ministry in Edo State, emphasized that the program aims to significantly alleviate poverty across Nigeria.
Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Stephen Idehenre, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the empowerment while urging continuous support to empower more farmers in the state. He encouraged the beneficiaries to maximize the use of the inputs provided to improve their agricultural output. In response, Mrs. Jane Ojo, a poultry farmer and representative of the beneficiaries, assured that they would utilize the inputs effectively to enhance productivity, emphasizing their commitment to making the program successful. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and livelihoods through targeted interventions in agriculture.”
