The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and other stakeholders, has launched the Nigeria Farmers Soil Health Card Scheme (NFSHCS) to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security. Announced in Abuja, the scheme will reduce farming costs, boost output, and increase farmers’ incomes by promoting sustainable soil management and efficient fertilizer use.
Minister Abubakar Kyari, represented by Mr. Oshadiya Olanipekun, emphasized that healthy soil is vital for optimal crop growth and environmental benefits. The scheme will provide farmers with online soil health cards, offering data on soil fertility. Minister of State Dr. Aliyu Abdullahi noted that the streamlined process will prevent delays in issuing the cards. Dr. Aduramigba Vincent from the Institute of Agriculture Research & Training highlighted that the scheme will reduce input costs and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
