To help boost food production and keep farmers informed on the latest agricultural practices, the Nigerian Association of Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists (NAAHHT), Oyo State, recently hosted the first Oyo Farmers’ Interactive Forum 2024 at the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT).
NAAHHT Chairman, Mr. Olayinka Oluwatoyin, said the event aimed to equip farmers with valuable knowledge to improve their businesses despite economic hardships. The forum, free of charge, featured experienced farmers who shared lessons from their own setbacks. He also encouraged farmers to take advantage of short-term courses at FCAH&PT to further enhance their skills.
Provost of FCAH&PT, Dr. Koya Owosibo, addressed the rising costs of animal feed and emphasized the need for better, drug-free animal protein production. Livestock expert Mr. Tunmise Olagbaju praised the forum for bringing together farmers and professionals to tackle current challenges like economic instability, climate change, and food security issues.

The Oyo Farmers’ Interactive Forum 2024 is a positive move toward improving Africa’s agri-food sector. By providing farmers with practical knowledge and lessons from experienced peers, the event helps farmers overcome challenges, especially during tough economic times. Encouraging them to take short courses at FCAH&PT helps build skills and foster growth, allowing them to make better decisions and improve their productivity.
Dr. Owosibo’s focus on finding affordable feed and producing cleaner, drug-free animal protein is critical for the livestock industry, addressing both cost issues and health concerns. Mr. Olagbaju’s point about the importance of collaboration highlights how sharing knowledge can help farmers tackle larger issues like climate change and food security.
