The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has partnered with the Youth Farmers Development Initiative (YFDI) to establish a botanical garden and horticultural parks on campus. This collaboration formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to promote environmental consciousness and agricultural education by cultivating fruit trees and orchards within the university premises.
Engr. Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, the Vice-Chancellor of FUPRE, highlighted the significance of integrating green initiatives with infrastructural development, emphasizing the inclusion of fruit-tree planting in the university’s Master Plan. Mr. Chilota Onyeka, National President of YFDI, reaffirmed their commitment to assisting FUPRE in realizing economic benefits from genetically modified fruit trees while enhancing biodiversity and climate resilience.
During a practical session, both the Vice-Chancellor and YFDI President participated in planting samples of fruit trees, symbolizing the beginning of efforts to expand the campus’s green cover and create a healthier ecosystem through this partnership.
