Plateau State’s slogan, “The Time is Now; The Land is Green,” highlights Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s focus on peace and agricultural development. The Governor emphasizes the urgent need to secure the land and its people to foster economic growth. In collaboration with stakeholders, the state aims to maintain peace and boost food security through extensive mechanized farming. Last year, the Governor initiated the cultivation of 900 hectares of land to prevent it from lying fallow due to armed attacks. This year, the state is divided into three agricultural zones, each focusing on crops with a comparative advantage across 4,000 hectares per zone. The ASTC has begun cultivating 6,000 hectares in displaced communities to restore livelihoods. Governor Mutfwang aims to build a sustainable economy beyond oil, leveraging agriculture as a key driver. Despite past challenges, efforts are being made to standardize food production, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve marketing opportunities. To support displaced persons, an intervention targets 6,000 hectares, with a minimum of 3,000 hectares, providing seeds for a bumper harvest. This four-week cultivation, covering all three zones, is free for farmers, and funded by the state government. The ASTC, equipped with 300 tractors, is dedicated to aiding farmers and ensuring food security and economic stability. Source- Vanguard
