The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has empowered about 200 youths and women in Nasarawa State through its Home Grown Poultry Program. Held at the Emir’s Palace in Lafia, the initiative provided beneficiaries with start-up kits including three-tiered bird cages, 25 birds each, and three bags of feed per person. This support aims to boost agribusiness among women and youth, enhance incomes, and foster sustainable agriculture practices.
Before the distribution, NALDA briefed traditional leaders, including the Emir of Lafia and the chairman of the Nasarawa Council of Chiefs, on the program’s objectives. Emphasizing the project’s revolving nature, NALDA stressed the importance of beneficiaries’ commitment to its continuity. The initiative not only aims to reduce chicken importation, and conserve foreign exchange but also aims to create employment opportunities in poultry production. The Emir of Lafia and other traditional leaders commended NALDA for involving the traditional institution in implementing the program and expressed strong support for its success. NALDA has successfully implemented similar programs in Abuja and Lagos, with plans to expand to more states across Nigeria.
